What's a build?

With the right tools and care, Owala FreeSip lids can be disassembled without damage, allowing independent makers to create new combinations. A build — also known as a frankenbottle or franken for short — is an independently-curated FreeSip bottle made with parts from as many as six “donor” colorways. Each Dustmote Studio build typically features parts from 4-6 different bottles, and is styled with a coordinating cap gasket.

Can I buy just a lid?

No, I don't usually sell lids on their own. Most of the colorways I build with can only be purchased as complete bottles, so selling just the lids would leave me wrangling a pile of orphaned headless bases.

It wouldn't do much to bring the price down either, since the lid is by far the costliest part of any build. Most of my lids feature parts from 4 different colorways; buying four bottles at $30–35 each means that building a single lid requires me to make a base investment of $120–140+ in part bottles alone. Quite the spendy little niche, eh?

What's an encore?

Sometimes my builds sell within seconds of hitting the shop. (I don't know how y'all do it!) If I'l can, I like to bring these designs back for a repeat performance, to give more folks a shot at getting their hands on them. I call these "encore" releases. Occasionally they're another size or feature slightly different parts from their predecessors.

I want a build that already sold. Can you make another one for me?

It depends on part availability and your budget. Recreating a past design on demand is a type of custom build; check out “Do you make custom builds?” for more details.

I also sometimes offer "encores," which are demand-driven recreations of popular, sold-out Dustomote Studio colorways. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram to stay in the loop on those!

Why do builds cost more than retail FreeSips?

Simply put: they're costly to make.

Most of the colorways I build with can only be purchased as complete bottles, and every build I make features parts from several different colorways, usually 4-6. Multiply that out by the average stock bottle price of $30-35 a piece — on average, every build I offer represents an investment of $120-210 in part bottles alone.

Do you make custom/made-to-order builds?

I do! Just a heads-up: builds are the most expensive type of custom FreeSip to make. They usually involve $130–190+ in part bottles, plus labor, accessories, packaging, shipping, and selling fees. If that fits your budget, reach out and we’ll see what’s possible.

If that’s out of your budget, consider checking out Wishmaker. It’s a fun, no-pressure way to have a chance to see your dream build come to life for my regular listing prices. (No promises, but sometimes wishes do come true.)

Can you repair my broken FreeSip lid?

Probably! If all the pieces are still intact and it just needs reassembly, I can almost certainly help. If something’s actually broken or missing, we’ll need to talk through the details. Reach out and we’ll take it from there.

Where do you ship to?

I ship to the US and Canada.
